Etiquette in Bali

While Balinese are generally friendly and courteous, as a guest in a foreign country, you are expected to respect the customs and way of life of the locals. As you explore Bali, you will come across a people that can only be described as hospitable and gracious. Compared to other places in Indonesia, the people in Bali are quite extroverted, and do not usually take offence in being photographed. Having said that, you should get to know a bit of local manners so as not to offend unintentionally.
Dressing
While within the confines of resorts, you are free to wear anything you wish, if you are intending to visit temples, your dressing should be more conservative. You should be sensitive when visiting villages and rural parts of the island. The same goes when you have to visit a government office - expect government officers (of any country) to be humorless.
For men, it is encouraged that you pack at least one pair of long trousers and long-sleeved shirt; for women, a knee-length dress or skirt and blouse that covers the shoulders and upper arms.
