 Gunung Kawi Royal Monuments, Bali
Gunung Kawi Royal Monuments is a memorial shrine complex near Tampaksiring. It is located in a valley bordering the Pakrisan River. The royal monuments refer to shrines carved into niches in the natural rock wall of the valley. There are some nine such monuments.
The Gunung Kawi Royal Monuments are associated with the 11th century king Anak Wungsu and his wives. In addition to the main shrines, there are some more, called the Second Cloisters, to the south, and Third Cloisters, to the east bank. These have been attributed to the queens of Anak Wungsu, or perhaps his descendents. Across some ricefields is the farthest tomb, called the Tenth Tomb.
