Pura Tirta Empul is the sacred spring temple in Tampaksiring. Today a major tourist attraction, the temple is the source of the Pakrisan River. It comprises a series of rectangular pools and ponds. Crystal clear spring water emerges fro spouts. Each spout dispenses a specific holy water according to the request of the devotees.

Pura Tirta Empul dates back to the 10th century. As this is the holiest of the spring temples in Bali, it draws devotees from the whole island.
