Sacred Monkey Forest, Ubud
The Sacred Monkey Forest is a protected forest in Padangtegal, Ubud, inhabited by long-tailed macaques (also called crab-eating macaque). The sanctuary is located at the end of a long road known as the Monkey Forest Road, or in Balinese, Jalan Wana Wanara.
Visitors to the Sacred Monkey Forest should be aware that some of the monkeys are quite aggressive. You should put away any shiny objects such as spectacles and make sure your camera is strapped, as the monkeys are fond of grabbing belongings.
Located within the forest is Pura Dalem Agung Padangtegal, the temple of the dead.
