Sanur is, as mentioned, a beach in Bali. It is located to the south of Denpasar, about 18km / 30 minutes from the Ngurah Rai International Airport. The beach was the site where the Japanese landed during World War II, and quickly took over the island. Later, it became Bali's earliest beach destination, long before anybody knows of Kuta or Nusa Dua. Since then, it has been eclipsed by Kuta in terms of decibels, but is the ideal beach getaway for families and those seeking some solitude.
The beach at Sanur stretches about 5 km, making it ideal for long strolls. All creature comforts can be found nearby, even fast food restaurants such as KFC and McDonald's. The main road in Sanur is Jalan Danau Tamblingan, lined with shops and restaurants. The sea itself is only good for swimming during high tide, due to the reef, which forms a natural barrier. It is not advisable to swim outside the reef barrier, as the current there is very strong.
