Traveling to Islands off Bali

From Bali, you can travel to the surrounding offshore islands as well as neighboring islands of the Indonesian Archipelago. How far you go will depend largely on your inclination, and the amount of time you have at your disposal.
There are three islands located to the southeast of Bali, Nusa Penida, Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Ceningan. Nusa Penida is considered one of those off-the-beaten-path destinations. You can go there for a day trip by boat from Sanur Beach, Kusamba Beach and Padang Bai. Many diving and fishing enthusiasts take trips to dive sites and fishing sites off Bali. There's a wreck of the ship Liberty Glo at Tulamben often visited by divers, coral reefs at Menjangan Island, and dramatic drift diving off Nusa Penida.
You can also go to Lombok by shuttle boat from Senggigi in Bali. There are catamarans operationg between the Benoa Harbour and Padang Bai to the Gili Islands of Lombok. In addition, there are passenger ferries between Padang Bai and Lembar in West Lombok. This is used mostly by the locals and has a rather discouraging safety record.
