There is nothing to worry when it comes to the question of where to stay when you are in Bali. The island has all levels of accommodation available. They range from the basic guesthouses, called losmen, to mainstream hotels and upmarket resorts. In addition, you can also stay at speciality hotels, private villas and boutique hotels.
Staying at Losmen
Some private homes also accept guests for homestays. These are known locally as "losmen", the Balinese version of bed-and-breakfast. The name originated in the colonial times, from the word "logement". Today, they represent the "entry level" and most low budget form of accommodation you can get in Bali.
You should not expect too much for a stay in the losmen. Your accommodation here will very likely be a room within the family house. Some times, the owner may have custom-built the rooms to receive tourists. They are built around a central area. You will be provided with mosquito nets and fan, but not usually toilet paper. At some losmen, you can also get air-conditioned rooms as well as hot water at additional charge. Breakfast is almost always included in your stay.
You can find many losmen along Poppies Lane II in Kuta, Jalan Bisma and Jalan Kajeng in Ubud, as well as in Lembongan, Candi Dasa, Padang Bai and Lovina. To look for guesthouses online, click on Bali Losmen.

Private Villas and Boutique Hotels
In the last decade or so, small, intimate yet exclusive accommodation providers, called boutique hotels, have made their appearance in Bali. These are beautifully done up villas that offer a sense of privacy and a high level of comfort, above that of the losmen.
The prices at private villas and boutique hotels are of course much higher, as they often employ a battalion of hired hand from gardeners to cooks to cleaners and even babysitters. Such private villas are equipped with satellite television, wi-fi Internet connections, along with swimming pools for private parties.
Hotels and Resorts
Most of the mainstream hotels and international chains of resorts are found in South Bali and Central Bali. There is a wide price range, but to intense competition, you can expect very competitive prices especially for the medium-level hotels.
Most of the high-end resorts are found in Nusa Dua, which was specially developed for upscale tourists. Each of the resort here are self-contained communities with all the creature comfort and hospitality that come with the price tag. There is also a number of golf courses and a large shopping mall within a stone's throw in the Nusa Dua area.
If you intend to stay at a hotel, I would recommend that you start doing your homework before you leave for Bali. Booking online is the most convenient way to go. Click here to use our search engine to find and compare the prices offered by different hotel booking sites.
